  Embodying music with an unparalleled dramatic sensibility, soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan is an artist at the forefront of creation. Her artistic colleagues include John Zorn, Krszysztof Warlikowski,  Simon Rattle, Sasha Waltz, Kent Nagano, Vladimir Jurowski, Andreas Kriegenburg, Andris Nelsons, Esa Pekka Salonen, Christoph Marthaler, Antonio Pappano, Katie Mitchell, and Kirill Petrenko. The late conductor and pianist Reinbert de Leeuw has been an extraordinary influence and inspiration on her development as a musician. 

  The Canadian musician has shown a profound commitment to the music of our time and has given the world première performances of over 90 new creations. Hannigan has collaborated extensively with composers including Boulez, Zorn, Dutilleux, Ligeti, Stockhausen, Sciarrino, Barry, Dusapin, Dean, Benjamin and Abrahamsen. 

  The past few seasons have brought the premiere of a new production of Poulenc's opera La Voix Humaine, in which she both sings and conducts, interacting with live video. This new production and concept was created by Hannigan in collaboration with video artist Denis Guéguin and premiered with l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. The acclaimed performance has toured to various orchestras and halls including Copenhagen, Gothenburg, London, Rotterdam, Spoleto, Ludwigsburg, Winterthur, Wroclaw and Munich. Recent world premieres include Golfam Khayam's I am not a tale to be told with Iceland Symphony Orchestra, John Zorn's Split the Lark for soprano and piano with Stephen Gosling and Star Catcher for soprano, piano, upright bass and drums with Gosling, Jorge Roeder and Ches Smith, Zosha di Castri's In the Half Light with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and a new project with Katia et Marielle Labeque inspired by the life and music of Hildegard von Bingen. 2023/24 includes further world premieres by John Zorn, Salvatore Sciarrino, and Jan Sandström,

  Last season, Barbara made her conducting debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, with further debuts with Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, as well as ongoing musical collaborations with Gothenburg Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, LSO, Santa Cecilia, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, and appearances at festivals in Spoleto, Oslo, Copenhagen, Hanover, Ludwigsburg and Aix-en-Provence.

  L’artiste canadienne fait preuve d’un engagement résolu envers la musique de notre temps. Barbara Hannigan a présenté en première mondiale plus de 90 nouvelles créations. Le spectacle, couronné de succès, a été porté sur scène avec différents orchestres à Copenhague, Gothenburg, Londres, Rotterdam, Spoleto, Ludwigsburg, Winterthur, Wroclaw et Munich.   Bertrand Chamayou is one of today’s most strikingly brilliant pianists, recognised for his revelatory performances at once powerfully virtuosic, imaginative and breathtakingly beautiful. A leading interpreter of French music, his vast repertoire includes major bodies of work such as the complete piano works of Ravel, Liszt’s Etudes and Années de pèlerinage, and Messiaen’s Vingt regards sur l’enfant-Jésus. At the same time the French pianist possesses a deep passion for new music, having worked with composers including Pierre Boulez, Henri Dutilleux, György Kurtág, Thomas Adès, Bryce Dessner and Michael Jarrell. 

  Chamayou performs at the highest level, appearing regularly at the world’s most prestigious concert halls and festivals, from Philharmonie de Paris, Wigmore Hall, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Elbphilharmonie, Berlin Philharmonie and Concertgebouw Amsterdam, to Lucerne Festival, Salzburg Festival, New York’s Mostly Mozart and Suntory Hall Tokyo. He has performed with the world’s finest orchestras, including New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, Leipzig’s Gewandhausorchester, Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Wiener Symphoniker, Tonhalle Orchestre Zurich, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, NHK Symphony Orchestra, and has shared the stage with Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Philippe Herreweghe, François-Xavier Roth, Herbert Blomstedt, Sir Antonio Pappano and Elim Chan. 

  This season sees Chamayou appear as ‘Artist Portrait’ with London Symphony Orchestra, involving two major London concerts, four LSO St. Luke’s recitals plus a European tour. 

  He will also release his anticipated next album on Warner Classics, Satie-Cage, an homage to Eric Satie through the eyes of John Cage. 

  He performs regularly with fellow musicians including cellist Sol Gabetta and is creating a Messiaen project with soprano-conductor Barbara Hannigan.

  In June 2022 saw Chamayou released his recording of Messiaen’s masterpiece, Vingt Regards sur l’enfant-Jésus (Erato), which he performed as a complete cycle including at Paris’ Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and la Roque d’Anthéron. The album was met with widespread critical acclaim, and was awarded a 2022 CHOC de l’année.

  Chamayou’s multi award-winning discography also includes Ravel’s complete works for piano, which won the 2016 ECHO Klassik Award, and Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage, which won Album of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. In 2019 Bertrand Chamayou won the Gramophone Award for Recording of the Year for his album of Saint-Saëns on Erato, for whom he is an exclusive recording artist. He is the only artist to have received a prestigious Victoires de la Musique Classique award on five separate occasions, most recently in 2022.

  Since 2021, Chamayou has been co-Artistic Director of Festival Ravel, the major new international festival celebrating Maurice Ravel, situated in France’s Basque country.

  Il se produit régulièrement en récital dans les plus grandes salles : Philharmonie de Paris et Théâtre des Champs Elysées, ElbPhilharmonie de Hambourg et Philharmonie de Berlin, Wigmore Hall de Londres, Concertgebouw d’Amsterdam, Suntory Hall de Tokyo. Il est l’invité de festivals prestigieux, parmi lesquels le Mostly Mozart à New York, le festival de Lucerne, d’Edinburgh, de Salzburg, de Rheingau, le Beethovenfest Bonn, le Klavier-Festival Ruhr ou le festival de la Roque d’Anthéron.

  Chambriste très apprécié, il a pour partenaires des artistes de renom, parmi lesquels Sol Gabetta, Vilde Frang, Renaud et Gautier Capuçon, Leif Ove Andsnes, le Quatuor Ebène ou Antoine Tamestit. Très impliqué dans la création et le nouveau répertoire, il a également collaboré avec Henri Dutilleux ou György Kurtág, et plus récemment avec Thomas Adès, Bryce Dessner et Michaël Jarrell qui lui dédie son dernier concerto pour piano.

  Bertrand Chamayou a enregistré un grand nombre de disques. Artiste exclusif Warner/Erato, il reçoit en 2016 le prix ECHO Klassik pour son enregistrement des œuvres complètes pour piano solo de Ravel. Son enregistrement consacré aux concertos pour piano Nos 2 et 5 de Camille Saint-Saëns avec l’Orchestre National de France et Emmanuel Krivine, est récompensé du prestigieux Gramophone Classical Music Awards dans la catégorie meilleur enregistrement. En juin 2022 paraît les Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus d’Olivier Messiaen, dont il a joué le même mois le cycle intégral au Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

  Bertrand Chamayou est né à Toulouse ; son talent musical est vite remarqué par le pianiste Jean-François Heisser, qui deviendra par la suite son professeur au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. Il se perfectionne auprès de Maria Curcio à Londres. Il est le seul artiste français à avoir remporté les Victoires de la Musique à cinq reprises, dans toutes les catégories. Il est co-Directeur Artistique du Festival Ravel, à Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
