Najla Nubyanluv

A three-time graduate of The Watah Theatre and alumni of bcurrent’s mandiela rAiz’n in the Sun ensemble, Najla Nubyanluv is a queer, Black playwright, actor, author, doula and facilitator. During her 2017 Spolrusie Arts Fellowship at Watah, her play I Cannot Lose My Mind received Individual Creation funding from Canada Council for the Arts before its world premiere and publication in The Watah Theatre Double Bill co-produced by The Watah Theatre, Crow’s Theatre and Najla Nubyanluv in 2018. 

Najla is an avid reader and the author & illustrator of I Love Being Black, a children’s book and many other publications. She currently teaches part-time at Sheridan College while working as a Producer at Why Not Theatre for Quote Unquote Collective and Sunny Drake. Najla is passionate about storytelling and mentorship. Her work focuses on joyful Black futures and empowerment for all.
