A 2013 graduate of the Collège Lionel-Groulx theatre program (major in acting) and recipient of the Excellence Scholarship, Philippe Boutin is an actor, writer, teacher and director. He quickly distinguished himself as a creator to watch with his first ambitious plays: Détruire, nous allons, a large-scale show featuring 40  actors on a football field and presented as part of the OFFTA 2013, and Le  vin herbé (Prix Opus, Discovery of the Year), an epic opera-theatre piece with a cast of nearly 70  artists (actors, dancers, singers and musicians), presented at Arsenal Montreal in June  2016 and produced by BOP. In 2018, he founded the company Empire Panique, which will produce his next large-scale diptych creation. The Rise of the BlingBling is a pop retelling of the Jesus Christ myth.

This outlandish epic, which borrows as much from the history of Jesus as it does from pop culture, is a two-part work in the style of a hyperactive kaleidoscope. Dance, theatre, kung-fu, mime, song, lip synching: every performing art on stage at once to tell the tale…
